Okay folks, I was finally able to backup settings from the scanner to the computer. The resulting 996 file is 1.3 MB big. Since I purchased this scanner used, I would like to reset the scanner but I don't want to lose the files programmed for my area. I was wondering if someone can take a look at the 996 file and tell me which sites/groups/freq come pre-programmed with scanner and be safely deleted. Thanks a lot in advance.

Everything that comes in the scanner can be safely deleted (since they are a) easily restored and b) mostly out of date and c) you've got a backup).

Thanks UPMan for the reply. So, if I go ahead and empty the scanner and just upload the Wisconsin related items from FreeSCAN, I should be fine right? I have learned how to program conventional frequencies by creating groups so far. I need to learn how to program trunk systems.

Since I have the backup, I should be able to restore all the system if I mess up.

Correct to both questions.
