I have been using Freescan and RR to program into my 996.After reading comments am I to assume I don't need DCPD programmed as it could affect reception although I don't hear them. I pickup DCFD intermittently in Loudoun County and am trying to rectify the problem with little positive results.
Would a Yagi in the attic help or am I wasting money?

Programming the police is a waste of time anyway, as they're largely encrypted. It won't 'affect reception', you just won't hear much of anything

You didn't say much about what antenna you're using now, but I suspect that you are correct - a yagi would probably help, even in the attic. However there is a tradeoff - signals from other directions would be attenuated somewhat (how much would depend on the construction of the attic as well as the Yagi itself, among other details)

DCFD trunked system.

Thanks for your input on this subject Mike. Right now I am picking up DCFD with a good back of set antenna but it is not consistent.

DCFD monitoring

Just an update on receiving DCFD out here in Loudoun County. Went over to RS and bought a 800mhz rubber duckie antenna and 90 degree adapter. Put in on my BCD996T and the reception is outstanding. Only negative is I can't receive Fairfax.
But it works.
