While touring the USS Midway Museum, I noticed a lot of staff using high end Motorola HT’s (perhaps MTX 3000 or 5000’s). Some of the other staff were using low end rented HT’s. Unfortunately, I did not have my frequency counter or a scanner with me to sleuth the frequencies out. The antennas appeared to be UHF, but I am not certain of that. I did a brief search on the FCC ULS database for “USS Midway” and “Midway” without success. Does anyone know what the frequencies are? Other insight?

The frequencies might be licensed to the overseer of the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum or a military facility around the Navy Pier. Since the USS Midway is now a museum, previous frequencies used while it was on active duty are no longer used or associated with the ship. Each Navy ship has a callsign, but the callsigns are not granted by the FCC. They come from within the Department of Defense

Sometimes the museums associated with military branches may be using a frequency allocated or from the closest military base.

Example: U.S. Infantry Museum at Fort Benning, GA.
