frequencies with static sound

On a couple of my scanners, all of a sudden, every frequency that comes in is very static. All the frequencies that come in have this static sound. What should I do?

1 check our radio settings
2 check all ant connectors
3 could be conditons beyond control
4 freq could be having ant site troble
5 take the radio with you if you can try to drive around and try to pick it up that way

Are these handheld scanners? Medic's #2 is likely the cause. Changing the antenna on a handheld alot sometimes loosens the connection on the inside of the unit.
