I recently acquired a Yaesu VX-5r, and did a freeband modification.

But now I'm a little lost. How do I actually tell it a specific frequency to broadcast on/receive? For example, if I tried to broadcast on 154.5700, where/how exactly would I type this in? (In case it isn't obvious, I'm very new to this kind of thing.)

Thanks for any info.

You put the radio in VFO mode and punch in the frequency you want via the keypad. The manual is available in several places online. Get the manual and you'll understand better what the radio can do.

That radio is not certificated for transmitting anywhere except on the ham bands, but you're permitted to listen anywhere it will tune.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Any idea how I'd be able to listen to transmit on a certain frequency while listening to a different one?

The radio will do that, but you need the manual to read and accomplish the procedure. It's sort of involved.
It's called "Storing Independent Transmit Frequencies" and it's on page 42 of the manual. I found one
offering of the manual in PDF format at:
