Frequency Codes

Hello, I am still quite new to scanning, but I have been working on it a lot.
I am using a Radio Shack Pro651 scanner and the ARC500 soft ware.
Under (Sq. Mode) I have (P-25) (CTCSS) (DCS) on a drop down Tab.
There is no NAC listed from what I have seen so far and I see that mentioned a lot on different post here.
Does this information have to be listed in the program to be able to hear the Frequencies associated with them ????
I have one Moto 800/900 and two P25 systems loaded in the program. The program seems to put this information in its self as it shows up on the Conventional page.
I do under stand what PL Tones are with respect to repeaters but as far as this scanner is involved with codes on the RX end , I am not really sure how they go together

The NAC codes are only for conventional P25 Frequencies. They are not used on trunking systems or at least we do not need to program them into the scanner for trunked systems.

TNX Mike, I wasnt sure if I had missed something on the NACs or not.
Do they need to be logged into the Conventional Frequencies ????
There seems to be a bunch of new Frequencies either already available or are coming available in my county. I guess I will just add them to my already entered list and see what happens.

It is best to have the NAC for any P25 conventional frequency as part of the programming for that frequency. Do you absolutely need it? No, but it then opens the frequency up for any transmission of any type of signal to come through.

The squelch modes never needs to be programmed to listen to a frequency, but it does provide an additional layer of filter so you listen to exactly what you want. As for NAC, the Pro-651 uses the Squelch Mode P25. It's the exact same thing, just labelled differently.

More or less, NACs are to P25/digital frequencies what is CTCSS/DCS for conventional frequencies: a means to filter out undesired reception.
