I'm not sure if it's because they are working on 400Mhz as opposed to SAM which operates at 155MHZ, but their transmissions seem to have a bit more aircraft hum in the background. I agree as well that their protocol for radio traffic is quite different than SAM.

I realized that they do use a little different talk for the readio when I listened to them this weekend. You are right they do not sound as friendly as SAM. They fly much slower too.

Parview used to have 3 Samartan helecoptors and around the year 2000, one crashed after having maintenence performed in Pennsyvania. I'm not sure if they ever got that one repaired or replaced, but I know there are at least 2 in operation at the moment. Now, I know one used to be stationed in N. Manchester which is 16 miles from Huntington, one at Ft wayne, and cant remember where they used to stage the third before it crashed. If they still stage out of N. Manchester with one of the SAM's, it seems likely that Parkview Hunt. would dispatch it. However Hunt. does not dispatch the SAM out of Ft Wayne.

During transmissions, you'll hear either the bird or dispatch refering to SAM 1, Sam 2, etc. If you ever hear SAM 3, they may have the third up and running again. I cant honestly remember hearing Sam 3 in a while and if I have, wasnt paying attention.

BTW, in case you're wondering, there were only minor injuries when the one crashed. It was on our local news here in Ft Wayne. I guess they have a maintenance company over there do major repairs to them when needed. Sorry to be so long winded, hope this answer's you're question.

First never had three birds the one that crashed was SAM 1 was out for maint. The second bird sam @ is in Rochester not N. Manchester. But listening to the traffic the same dispatchers have radio traffic with both birds. It is also the same voices that are calling the Park. Hunt. medic units on 155.400

What do you mean "first never had three birds"? You saying that Parview never had 3 Samaritans? Whatever dude, beleive what you want, I know they did.....

You are right about one thing though, it was Rochester and not N. Manchester.

Whatever DUDE!!!!!! If you personally know members of the flight crew, why post you're question here instead of just asking you're buddies? Or someone you worked in Emergency Services with for 13 years?? I'm not going to get into a pissin' match with ya about it, I was given the information a while back from a friend at Parview Ft Wayne and tried to answer a question you asked. Seems unlikely that you would call you're flight crew pals to see if I was right about the quantity of copters they have or had and not with you're original inquiry. Either way, Good Luck getting you're answer!!

Chaser945 is correct about not having three helicopters. I work in the ER at Parkview and know this for a fact. The one that crashed was out on matienence and has been replaced. I do not know why exactly the dispatch from Parkview Huntington. But I was told once that is was due to the altitude and reception that the get with the tower is better there. But I due not know the exact reason.

I will try to do this politically correct!

Sam 1 came on line in 1989. They were dispatched by the AMR people or as more people like to call them, Three Rivers ambulance authority. These were the same dispatchers that send the paramedic trucks out in the city. (However, this is not correct, TRAA is the governing body for the ambulance provider and has never been the provider). Parkview added a second helio in Rochester, IN just a few years ago. Because of this, the dispatch had to be a bit more centrally located for the two stations. That is when Huntington started dispatching both Sam 1 and Sam 2. There has never been a Sam 3. The ship that crashed in PA was the original Sam 1 and was replaced. Parkview Health rents the ships from Corporate Jet who actually supplies the pilots.

Lutheran Air is now dispatched by the same people that started with the original Sam program. The AMR folks!
