Sorry guys I've been here 10 mins and already a 2nd post.....There is a frequency in one of my banks on the PRO-96 that I always have to lock out cuz as soon as I release it the scanner sticks on that frequency and it sounds like some one is keying the mic open under the hood of a Semi truck....sounds like a diesel engine. I assume that I am using the wrong mode on this freq. Any ideas?

thanks,

John

If you are programing a Motorola system in a PRO96 radio, the "buzzing" freq. is the only one you need to program.

Make sure the freq. has a MO in the upper left corner of the display. You do that by hitting PGM and then MODE until MO appears.

Also make sure the bank is in Motorola mode. You do this by hitting PGM>TRUNK hit MODE until MOT appears on the third line.

If you hit SCAN and you don't hear any activity, make sure the bank is open. You do this by hitting PGM>FUNC>5 This will change the minus sign next to MO to a plus sign allowing all talk group activity to be heard.

Then hit SCAN. You should hear something then.

I'm also getting that DIESEL ENGINE sound on some channels

I hearing the same sound. Sounds just like under the hood of big diesel engine running 2000 or 3000 rpm.
I'm getting in on my Uniden BCT15x. I just got it and am not very far up the learning curve.
I programmed my local county's trunked ("Motorola Type II SmartZone") as a system
I have tried it with and without the talkgroups.

I have tried it with the system option set to "ID Search" and no talkgroups entered and ALSO with system option set to "ID Scan" with takgroup ID's and descriptions enetered.

I am using Free Scan but set up on System from the keypad just to see how it was done and regardless of what I do I get that diesel engine sound. Right now it is on the Anderson Count Sheriff Dept. Dispatch channel and the Greenville PD Ch3. It's not constant will lock on to a channel for a few seconds then continue scanning. It just picked up the same noise from a hospital channel. So I'm getting the same diesel noise from PD, Sheriff & Hospital on the Mot Type II SmartZone trunk. The system I'm trunking is the Palmetto 800 under South Carolina. Mainly Anderson SC and surrounding area.
Question: What is this sound and can I get rid if it? I don't want to L/O the main Sherrif's Dept. Dispatch channel.

I get a lot more voice traffice if I just use the built in State selection but then I don't know who I'm listening to. I do still get the diesel noise there too at times but a lot more voice traffic. If I program all the local conventional channels and trunked channels, shouldn't I get at least as many hits as with the State PD HP option?

Any suggestion on what this noise is and any setting/options that are important. I really don't understand them.
Should I use the "Motorola End Code" in the System setup from Free Scan?
Should I use the "20db Attenuation" in the Site setup from Free Scan?

I"m not getting anywhere near the amount of voice using the stuff I programmed as I do when I just use the State HP PD, etc thing. I wonder why? Any suggestions appreciated.

Sorry for rambilin -- been working on this thing for hours & hours!
Thanks,

The noise you are hearing is the control channel for the system you are listening to. If you're hearing noise on that channel, the channel is probably programmed incorrectly (set as "FM", for example).

Thanks for the reply.
I have the frequencies in that site set to "AUTO"nOption. After your reply, I tried both FM and NFM, which are the only options.
I get the same diesel like noise regardless of the setting.

I get the voice transmissions for the SC Highway Patrol (which is in a different TGID), although it shows it is using the same SITE with only a occasional diesel like noise.
I'm not getting receiving any of the local Police or Sheriff Dept. transmision other than the diesel like noise.

Since it started in Co, I'm keeping it here... I guess South Carolina figured out just how helpful we are in Colorado ;-)
