I'm also getting that DIESEL ENGINE sound on some channels
I hearing the same sound. Sounds just like under the hood of big diesel engine running 2000 or 3000 rpm.
I'm getting in on my Uniden BCT15x. I just got it and am not very far up the learning curve.
I programmed my local county's trunked ("Motorola Type II SmartZone") as a system
I have tried it with and without the talkgroups.
I have tried it with the system option set to "ID Search" and no talkgroups entered and ALSO with system option set to "ID Scan" with takgroup ID's and descriptions enetered.
I am using Free Scan but set up on System from the keypad just to see how it was done and regardless of what I do I get that diesel engine sound. Right now it is on the Anderson Count Sheriff Dept. Dispatch channel and the Greenville PD Ch3. It's not constant will lock on to a channel for a few seconds then continue scanning. It just picked up the same noise from a hospital channel. So I'm getting the same diesel noise from PD, Sheriff & Hospital on the Mot Type II SmartZone trunk. The system I'm trunking is the Palmetto 800 under South Carolina. Mainly Anderson SC and surrounding area.
Question: What is this sound and can I get rid if it? I don't want to L/O the main Sherrif's Dept. Dispatch channel.
I get a lot more voice traffice if I just use the built in State selection but then I don't know who I'm listening to. I do still get the diesel noise there too at times but a lot more voice traffic. If I program all the local conventional channels and trunked channels, shouldn't I get at least as many hits as with the State PD HP option?
Any suggestion on what this noise is and any setting/options that are important. I really don't understand them.
Should I use the "Motorola End Code" in the System setup from Free Scan?
Should I use the "20db Attenuation" in the Site setup from Free Scan?
I"m not getting anywhere near the amount of voice using the stuff I programmed as I do when I just use the State HP PD, etc thing. I wonder why? Any suggestions appreciated.
Sorry for rambilin -- been working on this thing for hours & hours!
Thanks,
