OK, so I get to spend a few days away from home in a nice hotel on someone elses dime. I am in downtown Indianapolis and I brought my 2 Uniden scanners for fun. I also brought in my mag mount antenna.

I didn't find anything to mount it to so I improvised and took the cover off the ironing board and put it in front of the large picture window and stuck the mag mount on it. I am a frickin' genius. :)

Maybe I can come up with some new antenna design and sell it to suckers. ;)

Or maybe the cops will get a report of a terrorist with a antenna in the window at the Hotel. :p I can hear them now just screaming; "on the floor sucker"

Just kiddin there kokomo1. :) Seriously though if you are in a Hotel in downtown Indianapolis, why would you not just go with the stock or 800 MHz Radio Shack type antenna?

Hey when your high up in a hotel reception can be great :)
I stayed in downtown San Diego and picked up all the LAPD divisions with the stock antenna.
I've also stayed in the Luxor with a perfect view of McCarren Airport in Las Vegas. That was fun monitoring.

KK1, Not A Bad Idea.

With Or without Starch On The Board Might I Ask?

I Have My 796D Hooked Up To A Rat Shack Mag Mount Ant On My Computer Desk.

Since I Live Near A Lake & Outside Antennas Are Asking BIG For A Lightning Strike, I Have The Ant On A Progresso Soup Can Hidden Behing My Am/Fm/Cd Player On My Computer/Shack Desk.

Popped A Small Hole In The Top For The Element, WAH LAH, Picks Up All Freqs & Is A Clean Install.

That must have really helped ironing out any reception problems. Avoids those RF spectrum wrinkles. Hey, calm down, no reason to get all steamed up about it. Sounds like it was a pressing problem at the time. At least you weren't board.

I did somthing similar when I was on a trip to Melborn, Florida. I had a balcony with a nice metal railing with a semi flat surface. I stuck 4 mag mounts onto the railing and ran the cable under the door and into the arsonal of radios that i brought. It was pretty sweet.

Grooooooaaaaan! Actually I'm jealous that you seemed to have come up with most of the puns before I did, although they seem to be only 2/3 of a pun, i.e. "P-U".

Not mentioned is that this genius demonstrates trends of a magnetic personality with a least one lofty goal!

I don't know what antenna it is. I picked it up at a hamfest for $10.

As for reception, it seems no better/no worse than the 800 MHz RS antenna.

I know this sounds corny but I am really enjoying the GMRS action since I never have any traffic at home. That and Circle Center Mall (fequency from the DB) is kinda fun to listen to.

I want to slap half the morons with GMRS radios. Such a sad waste of good frequency banding. ;)

I'll keep my thoughts on Max Fleisher's Koko the Klown and the Three Stooges at the cleaners to myself, lucky you. I will however give you a little pat on the back, you're living proof that there's a sucker born every minute, you'll go far on e-Bay. I won't be so merciful next time, when you're blowing your own horn I'll be there giving the mouthpiece the pepper spray treatment. (;->)

Quick, with YOU around I'm glad I'm not a CBer! Hey, machine guns are legal in Oklahoma. (;->)

I hooked up a Pro-93 to metal chain-link back stop at a baseball diamond and the reception was quite impressive until the police man kindly asked me to put my toys away and go sit down.

Sounds like fun....I'll just try to get hotel rooms that are on upper floors and just use the stock antenna. Otherwise, stick it to the air conditioner in the wall!

i have had pretty decent reception in the past with mag mount's stuck outside on air conditioners.i have also used a antenna specialist mag mount stuck to a coffee can lid glued to a window sill.now i'm working off a full spectrum discone stuck in my attic for my main radio.i have a inside room mounted small discone for my backup radio.both do pretty well.

Uh, maybe next time you'll have the scanner programmed correctly? (;->)
