I was just talking with my neighbor down the street, and his cousin from Texas, whom happens to be a firefighter in Dallas was there also. The latter of the two was telling me that the communities of Frisco and McKinney, plan on going to a new 800 MHz digital radio system within the next year. Likewise, Plano will probably follow suit within the next two years. The bottom line however, is funding, but he was confident that won't be a problem for Frisco.

Anyone know in what direction Frisco and McKinney might be leaning towards, when it comes to digital radio preferences?

Frisco/Mckinney

Since Frisco is on the Plano Trunk System, are they planning on joining McKinney"s Trunk System,or are each going to have their on seperate systems.Maybe they will go out and waste money like the City of Wylie and the City of Rockwall(which has more system ID's than citizens).

For Frisco to go digital all of Plano's infrastructure would have to support digital, which would mean Plano, Allen, Frisco, Murphy, etc. would have to go digital. There have been rumors that some of these agencies have installed digital capable radios.

I don't see why McKinney should go digital, but they could without impacting everbody else as they are on their own system. I really don't see Frisco joining McKinney's system as it's way out of their coverage area.

McKinney and Collin County should combine their systems, but I believe there are politics involved in that decision.

By and large any and all of the above changes are a huge waste of our tax dollars.

Take my word, the Plano system is not going digitial next year or the next.

However, it is possible that Frisco could bail off the Plano system and join the new Collin County digital system, which is currently being built. No ETA on when it will be online.

In checking the FCC records of the McKinney TRS, WNJJ691. I see that they too, have recently modified their license for digital voice and data capabilities. Likewise, Frisco has officially applied for a new TRS license that allows digital voice and data.

This makes me wonder about what is going on Collin County, especially since they are planning a new digital radio system as well. Could the County, Frisco, and McKinney all be working towards a new common interoperable radio system? It would make sense if they were doing that.

When Frisco and Allen joined the Plano system, Allen came with five 800mhz frequencies, and Frisco came with the transmitter site. The five freqs have since been transferred to Plano's license. If Frisco pulls off onto their own system, will Allen try to do the same thing? Will the Plano site in Frisco (which is also the propsed site for Frisco's new TRS transmitter) be taken down?

The 'new' Collin County system has two additional transmitter sites (Celina in the NW and Blue Ridge in the NE). Part of the 'problem' with this system was inadequate coverage especially in the NW and Northern parts of the county. This looks to address those specific problems, there does not appear to any added capacity. Also with the new transmitter site in Celina, Prosper might be better served by the County rather than Plano's system.

Those sites aren't the new system, they are an expansion to the existing system. The new digital system is still in the design stage last I heard. When it goes online, all CCSO will migrate first, followed the smaller FDs as they can afford it.

That BlueRidge tower is like a 500 Footer too, In Digital Mode (As quiet as it is) CCSO will be able to talk to Durant Oklahoma (Provided they were on the same system -- lol) what I am interested to know is, will the New Collin Co. TRS be scanable on APCO-25 Scanners?

Collin Co. is supposed to be building a new 700MHz. TRS, But I'd bet, reguardless of who builds what and where. it'll be a Motorola Trunked system. considering Plano, Mckinney, Collin Co. Frisco & Allen all deal with D/FW Communications Inc. who IS NOT an EDACS Rep. My Money says MOTOROLA. now if its a straight up P-25 Trunked system Like Parker Co. then EFJ, but I seriously doubt it will be that. I wonder what they are considering for Encryption and which channels might become fulltime Encrypted?

Frisco is currently deploying all new EFJ 5100s for public safety use. I have not yet seen their programming options to determine if they are 9600 P25 capable or just standard 3600 Smartnet/Zone with P25 voice.
