Since using FRS doesn't require a license, how big are the fines for its misuse? I'm thinking about if someone were to plug in their mp3 player and broadcast music... continuously... and then got caught. What would the fines be? I can't find any information. I hate to break the law, but a friend (as always) is doing this and I thought they should know the consequences. thanks.

I remember reading where the fine for individuals is up to $10,000
and up to $500 per day for each day a violation occurs
and up to 1 year in prison. I don't know if this is still current.

Old wive's tale. Sugar in the gas tank will only plug the gas filter. Not nearly effective enough!

I'm not sure they CARE about FRS. Look who is using it: Fire Departments, Police departments, EMS, businesses, well, let's put it this way: About the only one who ISN'T using FRS is the federal government (who has their own cheap FRS radios, but on federal frequencies). It's available to anyone who wants to save money buying those vs the current more expensive radios. It's not at all ending up like the FCC envisioned it. And the kicker is that they won't even issue a Position Notice that says these other radio services should not use FRS. Only the CAP has done that. So, do you really think they are going to worry about fines?

They are probably more worried about Class D (traditional) CB since that has international range and ramifications.

Hmm the FCC caring.. thats a good one... I think the days of the FCC caring about the non liscensed crap are long gone... The only way the FCC will step in is if you mod on and amp it up and make it interfere with say a federal agency's stuff.. or say a TV broadcast... Heck look at BoPL the FCC says:" hey itll cause interference,.. SO WHAT we think its all gravy lol." So lets all settle in and treat FRS as a low power CB which is what it is. Its the CB for the high school tech nerd. Now if sayyyy Nextel had issues with FRS then the FCC would step in I promise you that,..

The FCC could care less about Amateur Radio (BPL?), so do you really think they're going to worry about FRS?
