Since the FT-60 is such a classic now and I just acquired one that was acting wonky; opening squelch
even when there wasn't any signal, I'd like to follow up on an old post from 2012 on the alignement settings.
These radios are like old pocket watches that required tweaking by a craftsman regularily.

To fix the squelch on the A1.tun.xxx menu on mine, which was constantly showing super high signal on 2 meters,
I parked the squelch where I wanted it to be (30% apx) on a 440 and 2 meter frequency and adjusted the A1 settings
until the squelch close/open point was where I wanted it to be. So far she's working like I want.
These are very cool radios and I'm really enjoying it. Kudos for the original posters. It was a great aid to me.

-----------from 2012 post----------

Just in case this issue ever pops up again here is a list of values in a working radio

BAT RV................ DC Volt meter

70cm UHF 420.000 to 470.000

REVISITED THIS…
Using the alignment procedure, I retuned the front end to max by adjusting to loudest signal through the speaker so opening the radio wasn’t necessary. This by the way returned it to the original setting.
However, I was still experiencing S5 meter readings on 2 meter with no signal present even after feeding it RF signals according to the manual.
Curious, I used no signal injection at all, even removed the antenna to set the “low” s meter setting.
Golly it worked. I wonder if there’s been a hardware or software change. My radio is recent production.
Maybe this will help somebody else.

Interesting. Yes, I purchased a FT-60R this time last year and its squelch was horrible. A few weeks after, I purchased the FT-70DR which worked better for my needs. (On the FT-60R, I didn't care for the location of the power switch either. It was right up against the antenna.)

I eventually sold the FT-60R to someone else.

I think I'm going to try just using the RF squelch in the menus and see how it goes, and save the squelch knob for special SOTA tuning of weak stations etc. I really like how quick the scanning function works. Yep the power switch needs an after market knob and I'm looking for little rubber feet to keep it from falling over.

I took the little rubber feet off an old electronic gizmo, and put them on the bottom corners of the FT-60 (not the battery) and it stands pretty solid now.
