My FT-8900 sends out a single DTMF tone every time I push the PTT. The people I am talking to can hear it, and me as well. Maybe some feature got turned on by accident, but what might cause this?

Likely it's the WIRES feature, it's easy to turn on by accident. The clip below is from page 48 of the manual:

Easy to do, it's a useless, top level function. Ive done it when i owned an 8800 and I've Read people doing it countless times with the 8800/8900 and a smattering portables.

The WIRES function on the older Yaesu analog radios can be disabled so that it's not possible to accidentally turn it on.
