Drowning Incident

At 2:07 P.M. on June 15, 2007, the City of Fort Collins Dispatch Center
received a call that as swimmer had possibly gone under the water at
Beaver Ponds Natural Area near Harmony and I-25.

The first unit on scene was Poudre Fire Authority who contacted three
young adult males who said that one friend who was attempting to swim
across the water had gone under. They informed Poudre Firefighters of
the known location. Three firefighters began swimming several swim
patterns on top of the wate3r with brief period under water but were
unable too locate the subject.

At 2:23 Larimer County Dive Rescue with underwater capability arrived at
the scene. Poudre Firefighters began shore support. By 2:20 four Dive
Rescue people were on scene.

As of 4:30 the operation has transitioned from a rescue to a recovery
effort.

Those assisting are Poudre Fire Authority, Larimer County Dive Rescue,
Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Fort Collins Police Services,
Poudre Valley Hospital Ambulance, the City of Fort Collins Natural Area
Rangers, and St. Anthony’s Flight For Life helicopter flew patterns over
the pond. Channel 7 helicopter took over that part of the mission when
St. Anthony’s left.

*****I have just received word that the subject has been located and is
deceased. Larimer County Coroner will make positive identification and
manner and cause of death.******
