If you want to get out on 10 to 40 meters and want to avoid the disapproving HOA/spouse who hates antennas, spend significant money and get this:

It isn't at all cheap, it isn't homebrewed, and it looks like a post-modernist statement or art; but it works on an apartment balcony or a backyard patio for a 1/4 acre house.

For a few hundred more, you can get the BABY loop antenna and run way more power. It is bigger and more noticeable, but can still be concealed with some thought and some low-viz paints.

Expensive, yes... how much time and effort would go into installing and concealing a EFHW antenna in a house without mature trees and a large yard?

Haha, thanks. I actually came across this thing the other day. It's definitely different! If it's actually effective, that would be pretty neat, but dang! Two grand!o_O

I have no connection to that company, but the antenna should never be the cheapest part of your rig unless you have acres and acres of land. Even then towers, log periodic antennas, rotators, etc. are not inexpensive.
