• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am looking for a manual for my FTL-1011 low band. I have searched all over the internet and can't seem to find one.

Also, does anyone know what kind of adapter is used to connect an external speaker. I see there is some kind of input/output port above the power wires. I am assuming that is the audio output for an external speaker since there is no other place on the rear of the radio.

Any help on either of issues would be greatly appreciated.

Red Dog Radios now has a PDF user manual download for the FTL-1011. I tried to download & transfer it to my post, however the file (1.12 MB) exceeds the (195.3 KB) RR posting limit. Give Tom a call & should e-mail you the file. Good luck.

The port on the back of the radio is just a regular 1/8" headphone style jack for an external speaker.

I also just spoke to Tom at Red Dog Radio a few minutes ago and for $30 each, he is going to complely convert and tune my 2 Vertex FTL-1011 - 99 channel - low band B's to 6 meters. I was able to save $15 per radio (he normally charges $45 per radio) because I already have the programming cable and software to program them myself.

Unless you have a reliable signal generator, service monitor AND know what you are doing I would suggest taking the same approach I did to having those radios converted. You CAN do more harm than good if you are not carefull, and I feel like $30 is a small price to pay to have it done correctly and also have a 90 day warranty.
