Good evening, all -

Is anyone here also a full-time RVer in the U.S.? I'm trying to figure out the best order of operatios when planning our travel days for setting up channels to monitor both en-route and for our planned destination. Was hoping someone had a sane method to quickly sort through the process.

Thanks!

One source may be RepeaterBook ( https://www.repeaterbook.com/index.php/en-us/ )

It is a crowd-sourced listing of ham repeaters for many bands and many areas, including the US. It is searchable by state, county and even city.

One caveat: They aren't particular about keeping it current. It's better than it used to be but probably not as good as one would hope. There aren't many sources available but this one seems to be the best.

I would use full database and gps while in motion and for one night stops, then set up FLs for area where you will stop for a few days.
OK, maybe I need to delve into the GPS option more (I don't currently have it). My biggest concern is prioritizing database and GPS signals (en-route) to specific types of systems that matter more to us while traveling, without filling the banks with less useful channels.

I'll keep researching it, thanks!

That is an issue to deal with for sure. ProScan software will allow you to set avoid for the full database by some selection values.

Full Database.
Gps
De-select service types of no value
Select Service types of value
Select (or not) any national selections
Set range - IMHO - smaller the better.
Be ready to avoid a lot of crap that sneaks in.

That is what I do for any travel not in my home area.
FWIW - what does RV even have to do with it? Same for 18 wheeler , RV or Micro Car. :)

We didn't full-time but we were on the road for as long as 3-5 months at a time. My experience...even with the GPS option you're gonna find that you're paying a LOT more attention to the scanner than you should. Something will kick off that will divert your attention to the radio and that's a recipe for disaster (assuming you're driving. If you're riding shotgun then ignore the last). When we reached our destination, I would set up my Pro-106 for that area for the night/week/month.

My primary setup is a SDS-100 programmed w favorite lists based on the route we plan to travel. Turn lists on and off when the location changes. I do not use a GPS connected to the SDS-100. I also use a iPad with cellular service that has Broadcastify - Listen Live to Police, Fire, EMS, Aviation, and Rail Audio Feeds book marked. I use a Airfly Pro Bluetooth wireless transmitter connected to the earphone jack that is paired to my noise canceling ear buds so my better half does not have to listen to my hobby. For Internet service, I use a Netgear Nighthawk 5G WiFi 6 mobile router with an unlimited data plan. Safe travels!
