Tonight I was using it to listen to my brother's PRO-106.
I am in Pittsburg and my brother is in Kern County.
On Friday evening around 20:30 I had the local police banging on my front door. It seems they had received two separate 911 calls from my home. Interesting though I had been home for the last two days from an illness and had not used my home phone at any time. Furthermore, I had my home phone forwarded to my cell phone. The officers stated that 911 had attempted to call back my home phone and got no contact.
I assurred the officers that I did not place any calls to 911 and they suggested I call my phone company to report a possible problem. I did but and while waiting on hold about 15 minutes I noted the line became static riddled and the volume would become very low which I explained to the phone representative. She attempted to have the line checked and shortly told me that there appears to be a problem.
Apparently, 911 return calls do not get forwarded! The next day I called my brother and had him call my home number and it was forwarded to my cell phone.
Well I noted the problem remained until Monday until the tech called me via my cell phone which was receiving my forwarded calls.
However, on Saturday morning around 02:30 I had placed my scanner to stay on the local PD dispatch when I heard another 911 call reported to my address. I had talked to dispatch earlier on my cell phone to inform them of the phone line problem and they shouldn't need to come out but I was told they by law had to respond. I told the dispatcher that I would be listening to my scanner at home and if I heard future calls I would respond via my cell phone immediately and she said that would be fine. I did call when I heard the 02:30 call and they verified who I was and didn't send an officer out. I note that the local police were quite busy doing both fights and one car chase in town when I heard my address announced.
To get to the Win500Client fun....
While listening to my brother's scanner I heard a call from the Hanford PD with a 911 call received with static only. The officer reported to the dispatcher that the last time they went to the house he was told by tennant that they do NOT have a LAND LINE!
According to my phone tech he replace a line about 1/2 mile away from my home that was a problem. You wouldn't believe how much of a hassle I went through thinking it may have been a problem with the wiring in my 33 year old home.
I have looked on the internet and have found a few similar situations. However, this Hanford person does NOT have a LAND LINE PHONE. So, I wonder who will have to initiate a problem call to the phone company?
Just a fun story and why I've been finding some fun with Win500Client!
