I know a troop commander got in trouble a few years back when he was recording these types of communications.

I wonder why? Most all departments record their radio traffic.

Back when OHP first went 800Mhz they had a phone patch set up on the system.

Now...I will tell you what! There was almost a year of listening to the troopers calling their wives, girlfriends, lawyers, you name it!

It was bad news depending on your point of view...LOL!

I kind of enjoyed it...well kind of. You find out things aren't really what they seem to be when you listen in on telephone calls...:(

This was back in the good old days when I just bought a brand new Pro 2006! 1994 or so?

lol I wasn't aware of that... I bet it was some good listening; probably even better than hearing the private calls that are out there now

Trooper- "Dispatch you want something from Whataburger?"

HQ- "Negative, I'm watching my girlish figure"

Oklahoma County SO dispatchers seem to be a little hyper tonight!

10 codes

Several years ago Poteau FD started using 462.625 for some reason. Our GMRS simplex repeater used this frequency so it picked it up and repeated it for our handhelds to hear.
When they were done with a fire, they would say, "Fire 4 to base, we are 10-8, 10-98, 10-19, and signal one." We liked it so much that we started using it to confuse our management.

Just a brief summary of a conversation between an Edward unit and Service Side (Tulsa PD).

Edward unit had called Service Side about a problem with his hand held. When he keys up he shows as an Ida unit to the dispatchers and wants to know if they can fix it.

Service Side dispatcher fiddles with her console and has him key up multiple times without any success, tells him to go to radio shop to get it fixed.

Offers temporary solution of "Just don't mumble when you need to call for help." Edward unit replies " When I hit my panic button, just remember that I'm Edward XXX not Ida XXX"

Not what you think

It is not what you are thinking. I should have been more specific in my post. The usual audio transcript recorder was not about what I was talking in this case. Everybody knows about those devices as do all the officers. OHP started out with a small trunked Motorola system that had phone patch capability. One of the features of the system was the ability to lock out other radios in the system during a phone call. No other radio could lock into the channels being used for phone communication. One of the troop commanders didn't like the idea of people abusing this so he purchased a trunk tracking scanner and attached an audio recorder to it. So, his violation of law was the act of intercepting a phone call where neither parties had approved monitoring or recording. The basic premise was that there was an expectancy of privacy in these calls. These were not radio calls per se, they were private phone calls utilizing trunked channels. Its the same thing that occurred on 800 Mhz analogue cellphone calls. Everybody in creation could hear the conversations but it was illegal even though possible. It still is today and you can go to jail if it is found out. I used to hear cellphone calls all the time on 453.600, the old OKC Fire channel. I was hearing images of cellphone calls on a Radio Shack scanner. It was clear and often overrode the fire calls. I also heard cell phone traffic on my old tv set which tuned to the higher uhf channels in the high 800 mhz region.
The trooper case was settled through arbitration.

Heard on Springlake a couple days ago:

"Dispatch, you would not believe what I just went through, but they said I could go, so I'll be 10-8"

Upset volunteer fire chief

It was a rather large fire in central Oklahoma handled by three volunteer fire departments. The command unit called for additional rigs along with tanker trucks. After a few minutes it was apparent that the chief of one of the departments got a page but didn't get any other information. He called to ask what the situation was. It was obvious that the person who took charge had some kind of issue with the chief. He responded, "Well, we have a fire, and we have responded a lot of units out here." The chief said, "It would be nice to know where to send these units." The guy gave him the location. The chief said, "Do you want unit XXX sent out?" The guy said, "That would be nice."

(After an ambulance dispatch)

Medic 1 or 3: "Medic-1 responding"

Dispatch: "Copy Medic-1 responding"

Medic 1 or 3:"Change that to Medic-1"

Dispatch: "Errrr... okay copy Medic-1 responding"

Captain:"Is Medic-1 in service again?"

Medic 1 or 3:"Negative, we're in Medic-3"

...few minutes later....

"Medic-1 onscene, XXXX St North"

"The occupants of the trunk?"

As I type, Hefner in OKC is working a domestic in which a grandfather reported his granddaughter threw a hard-boiled egg at his head. No word yet if the egg connected, and if so, which was damaged more -- the egg or his head.
