No thanks. I already went to Google & looked before posting. Thanks for your reactions.

A waterfall display 'shows' what signals are in a frequency range
Is like those scopes that show the radio spectrum, like a histogram? Thanks for the simple answer I asked for buddy. I don't know how this is going to be used, unless it is in the analyze mode. I am going to need to read more about this.

Old scanners like Pro2006 has a 10dB attenuator switch but more modern scanners have for some reason 20dB that equals 100 times which often are too much. The SDS200 doesn't use a passive resistor net as it has a programmable IC that have less attenuation the higher the frequency. Something like that could be used and for each attenuation you go to the site or frequency and then the selector wheel will step thru all settings possible from 0-30dB to find the best reception quality and then save that value. There's still a lot that can be enhanced in todays scanners.

A variable attenuator setting for each frequency or trunked system would be nice. A variable attenuator setting for the waterfall 'Mode' would enhance its operation by allowing the user to filter out weaker or just low level noise from the display.

I have noticed a trend in forums, particularly for those who possess no understanding about something. For instance, when someone is asking various questions about a SDS 100/200, there are folks who recommend folks go to "Easier To Use" guides for various radios.

This is a perfunctory response.

However, they are some who go the extra mile to help someone out.

I would like to extend an appreciation for those who do take the time to help someone out.

Likewise, I've noticed a trend in forums where some folks seem unable or unwilling to put even the minimal sincere effort into researching something on their own, instead taking the easy way out by asking others to spend their valuable time explaining basic concepts that have already been covered here or elsewhere, sometimes ad nauseam/ad infinitum. Many of these queries can be answered with a simple Google search, often within the first three results.

Just say no to spoon feeding. 🚫🥄

Well, I have worked with ID clients. I understand. Sadly, they do indeed need spoon feeding since their FSIQs are below 20.

In RR forums, I remember a fellow who was 75 years old. He got zip when he asked for help. I don't know how old you are at present, but as you age some of your cognitive abilities decline. If you like, go to "Google Scholar": if you are interested in reading about this.

His last radio was a banked Bearcat. The same thing happened. "Here you go, read this." I might add the "Easier to Read" guides are not so for some folks.

So, for those who have low frustration tolerance, it is best to be cordial to people who don't possess the acumen you possess.

I know it is frustrating at times. But, "basic concepts" for you are not the same for all. They have improved the search function on this page, but it is still like the streets of San Antonio, confusing at times.

Here is what I found on the Google search:

"In Ham Radio transceivers, waterfall display is an almost real time display of activity on a particular region of the amateur band. It is seen as a chart which changes over time with frequency on the horizontal axis and time on the vertical axis. Signal strength is represented by the colour density of the display."

I did not read anything that explained the "functional relationship" between the X & Y axis. How would this new eye candy help me scan better? Again, the Google search never said "why" this was necessary. What do people do with "waterfalling?"

By the way, you are one of the main contributors in Forums. You have helped a lot of folks. Keep up the good work. We do appreciate the help you've given to others.

God bless.

Give a man a fish and he will ask for a handout all the time.
Teach a man to fish and he will feed himself for life.
Today he will just ***** about having to do it for himself. And still expect you to step up and do it for him.

Back on topic. I am hoping that joe or someone will post an updated screen capture. preferably from a SDS200

What if the "waterfall option" was a paid upgrade, how much would everyone be willing to pay and how many would pay for it? Just a thought.

My answer..$0
:cautious: ZERO Dollars!

Other enhancements, bug fixes & P25 performance Improvements are way more important to me than a Waterfall Feature/Option in which I would not pay for or spend One Cent on. Sorry Uniden!

If the filters [and other functions] affect the waterfall display, I would consider paying for this option.
