Think it would be better to sell a screen the size of the SDS200 that flips up that hooks into the unit. The little screen on the SDS200 will be hell squinting to see what’s going on.
Probably something that could have been planned for the micro USB port. JoeBearcat mentioned 2 years ago that Uniden where working on a related device that where not a scanner. Maybe it was abandoned or component shortage have temporarily stopped development.

There will be a view/monitor mode to some extent. As you suggest, monitor in full width will not be possible due to CPU requirements.

As for the rest, that is being worked on. Some of it is already there.
Above all, don't overdo it with the work. Almost 3 years nothing and suddenly the keyboard lock function.

I think that Uniden missed an opportunity to develop a true remote head capability for the SDS200. Or even one that could work with the SDS100.

The RH96 had a lot of limitations, but it was reasonably useable as it was.

Ham radios have had that option for 20 or so years.

The add on head that Mancow and others developed is nice and someday maybe I'll splurge and buy one if they are available. That said, it's much less expensive for the OEM manufacturer to build that in during the design phase that for any aftermarket developer. IIRC, Rich Barnett spent a lot of time and effort to try and develop a remote had for the BC780 and follow on mobile scanners. I don't recall if he ever got it into production, but it seems that the cost of the head would be almost as much as the cost of the scanner. Maybe he'll pop in and comment or correct my recollection.

Alas, it was not to be for the SDS200 which was a disappointment for me.

Yep.... It's highly doubtful Uniden would venture into the remote head market again after the underwhelming sales and lack of demand for the RH96.

Uniden should have a bluetooth transmitter built in their scanner and a real functional app for modern Android and Apple devices. Then any mobile phone or tablet could be used as a remote head. I believe that most devices can use a mouse when connected to its USB port, then Uniden could make a little controller with a volume wheel instead of a mouse wheel and a button to toggle to selector mode to skip calls and another button for hold/resume.

There's a lot that Uniden could do but as long as their scanners are selling like hot cakes there's no need for them to do much, not even doing firmware improvements and bug fixes. But we will never learn and like fools we stand in line to buy their new 160 and 260 scanners.

In line with that, I would like to see the built in Web Server in the 536 and 200 be more functional then it is now. Right now the scanner serves just "I am scanner called UB375Z.". That way a browser on a mobile device can access the scanner directly. I would like to see a folder added to the SD card called 'web server' and users can add custom HTML files. The possibilities are unlimited.

And here is the completed layout:

View attachment 150162View attachment 150163

Bay 1: (Left) IC-7300, BCD536HP (2)

Bay 2: (Center) SDS200, BCD536HP (2). The Astron 25A PS and an 8-port Stridsberg is also in this bay behind the radios.
Bay 3: Right) R8600, BCD996P2, BCD996XT
On top: AT-5888UV
On desktop: IC-705

The computer is in a bracket made specifically for the Magnus Desk by SecretLabs, it is remarkably sturdy there. The monitors are on a SecretLabs dual monitor arm. I was worried they would not provide enough forward clearance with the 14-inch cabinet but with the double-jointed swing they clear up nicely. The remaining writing surface on the desktop is limited but in enough for my needs.

I have really cut down on my radio inventory, gone are the days with 30 scanners in a fridge-sized freestanding cabinet. Those days were mostly scoping out the area that I recently moved to and now I have a pretty good read on things around here.

My main listening targets these days are railroads, aircraft, GMRS/FRS/MURS and searching out new stuff. Having retired from the public safety field I am no longer interested in listening to much police & fire these days.
If you look at the top picture, center of console, it "appears" this is the SDS200 with the waterfall. On the bottom picture, the scanner is off.

That's nice, however it's not quite commercial grade. Here is a link to the ScannerMaster page for their remote head,

It was nice, but at $495.00 I don't know how many they sold.

For those interested in ancient history here is a link to the installation and set up instructions,
