Great article, thanks for posting that.

Are there any air communications that can be monitored?

I live a couple of blocks from Sunnybrook, and my wife works at SickKids, so it would be great to listen in to the communications.

They dispatch on 413.68750
They call whichever CACC on 150.1 Provincial common
and occasionally you can hear them on 129.275 if they are landing at an airport or near an airport.

Also, I have heard them using the local air frequencies here in Halton/Hamilton.

I like the video. I personally know that the cost for a land ambulance can be $45 or $240. How much does it cost a patient to be transported by air ?

List time I was talking to an ACP(f) he said that patients don't get charged, cause the only time when they're being transported, is when they are circling the drain.

You should be able to with the frequencies I gave out from the d/b.

I hear them all the time, I am within eye shot of Hamilton General and routinely hear them as they come & go.

It is hard to hear more than one side of the conversation unless you live in the same area (CACC) as the call.

I was able to get a little 'show and tell' at MATC last night - the flight anaylist I talked to told me that they are "patched in with a province wide system" (likely Fleetnet) and that they have "towers" at most major cities to communicate with the 79x choppers (likely the UHF frequencies) and can also talk to ambulance dispatch on VHF (likely PCOM and 129.275). In remote areas, he said they use the phone (likely Globestar sat phones).

Its quite the setup in there...in the hour I was there, they had 4 calls, all in Northern Ontario - and he said it was a slow night.

This was in todays London Free Press:

Ornge buys Ontario-based fleet of 11 medically equipped helicopters, 4 hangars
Wed, April 1, 2009

By THE CANADIAN PRESS

TORONTO — Canadian Helicopters Income Fund has sold its fleet of eleven medically equipped Sikorsky S-76 helicopters, and four hangars in various parts of Ontario for $30 million to Ornge.

Ornge co-ordinates all of the province’s aero medical transport system as well as land and air ambulance transfers between Ontario hospitals.

Canadian Helicopters Ltd. will continue to provide flight operations, maintenance, airworthiness and related support for Ornge’s fleet of helicopters for at least three years, starting Wednesday, although under a different pricing agreement.

Total revenue to the fund is expected to be approximately $90 million for the initial three-year period, the fund said Tuesday.

In addition to the Sikorskys, Ornge is buying four CHL hangars in Ottawa, Moosonee, Kenora and London, which are in the eastern, northwestern and southwestern parts of the province.

Not sure why you aren't hearing them.... I hear them almost daily heading in and out of the airport to scene calls, then when they are enroute to UH or Vic. Comms are almost always on 413.6875/418.6875. If they need to talk to a crew on a scene they will use 150.1000. You will also hear them patched directly to hospital talkgroups on Fleetnet (you can hear them on the Fleetnet side or on the UHF channels above).

Forts: I have never heard them on fleetnet here.
Are you saying that they show up on actual talkgroups, patched from one of their frequencies?

Generally here in Burl/Ham/Halton/T.O. they stay on 150.1, 413.6875/418.6875.

Correct. Thames EMS in London commonly patches the UHF channel to one of the hospital talkgroups. For example, 792 will call in and ask for a patch to Victora Hospital. The dispatcher will tell them to hang on for a minute while it's setup, then the hospital comes on the line. At this point you can typically hear both sides of the patch on the UHF channel, and on Fleetnet the activity shows up on the hospital talkgroup (hmmm... never noticed if the hospital talkgroup shows +3 for a patch... I will pay attention for that next time. Don't think it does though).
