Then I became bewildered in the fog that was Microsoft and their constant maze of broken updates.

Personally, when the time comes I use 10 I'm installing a hardware based firewall with Pfsense and blocking all of M$'s ASNs. Then I'll watch SNMP and make sure nothing is going in or out of MY computer that shouldn't be. If I need a M$ site or update I'll run my VPN.

M$ made the user their cash cow with 10. After all, all of the great carnies of the world know that there's a sucker born every minute and there's no such thing as "free" without strings attached.
