To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey everyone,
I know a lot of people have posted their experience with third party antenna on a G5 with 700/800 but I can't seem to find post for VHF/UHF configuration. Any advice on what is a good antenna for the G3 would be great. I was wondering if the Nagoya 810 would work.
Thanks

The top antenna connector is only for the main band, 700-800mhz. for the G5 and I imagine the same for the G3. The secondary band uses an internal antenna only. So a multi-band antenna will not help you. If you get the Amplified Charger unit, it has an external antenna jack on the back in which you can attach an external antenna to for the secondary band.

The G3 is strictly UHF, I would contact your dealer to see if there is an upgrade to the antenna. East Coast Pagers was real helpful. Happy hunting.
pro106import you are correct on the G5, the internal antenna is only sufficient especially in the mountains, sooty at best.

My G3 is UHF/VHF so I'm assuming the external antenna is the UHF while the internal antenna is VHF. Since that's the case there is nothing I can do to improve the VHF reception right?

Correct...the G3 is both Uhf/VHF unless you get the amplified charger base as pro106import stated

I stand corrected. You are right the G3 is dual band. I still recommend contacting your dealer or Unication.
