If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

G5 alerting and software problems

I'm using the G5 on an analog vhf system right now but are about to be switching to tacn in the near future. I have the tones for my FD programmed in and it alerts when set to the selective call. But, when on the monitor channel, it won't alert for my dept tones. It will however randomly alert in the middle of dispatch giving out a call for another dept. I've been trying to figure that out so it will alert on the monitor channel, now when I go to the conventional group ID settings I get the following message.

If you want to increase the reception speed, it's recommended setting the Alert Mode in the Group Call ID and Private Call ID Setting section to "Tone" and setting the Alert Tone to "None".
Any ideas?

Thanks

There's two things here.

1. The tones over analog/VHF are going to be slightly different than what you'll hear over digital. The digital vocoder alters the pitch just enough in most cases to require you change your tones a bit to match.
2. Randomly alerting in the middle of a dispatch is probably because of digital artifacts that the G5 is interpreting as tones.

My local dispatch just switched systems, so I had to rebuild an entirely new table of tones to match against.
Luckily they simulcast over VHF, so my G5 still works reliably (and lasts a whole heck of a lot longer).

Sorry it's been a while been a little busy at work. We're not on the digital system yet, still strictly vhf analog only. A new problem has presented itself now.

When on selective call, the pager never alerts. If I'm on the monitor channel when the tones are sent out and switch immediately to selective call, it will alert as soon as I switch the channel mid-tone.

I know to try support, but that links me back to the dealer, and I paid for the programming service just to have to reprogram the entire pager as it didnt open the audio for anything being received. Contacted the dealer and was sent another profile that resulted in the same problems. I did eventually get it to open the speaker but two tone alerting is still no go.
