To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

G5 Display doesn't show full information when receiving conventional DMR.

On my G5 I have set up three adjacent school districts that all use single channel conventional VHF DMR systems. The configuration is like this:

District AA is on 155.25, Color Code 1, Slot 2, Talkgroup 9100
District BB is on 152.3225, Color Code 12, Slot 1 with Talkgroup 9200, and Slot 2 with Talkgroup 9201
District CC is on 152.36, Color Code 12, Slot 1 with Talkgroup 9300, and Slot 2 with Talkgroup 9301

I have a Zone Knob set up to scan all of the above. When the pager stops on District AA the top line of the display shows "District AA," the second line shows the radio ID number and the third line shows "Landing on: District AA" as would be expected. The issue I'm trying to solve is when it is receiving either District BB or District CC the first TWO lines display "[DMR]" and the third line "Landing on: District BB (or CC)." For the latter two districts it never shows their name or radio ID number on the first two lines. Is there a way to correct this behavior so that the district name is displayed for all three on the top line? It appears to me that I have all three set up the same, but I can't get all three to display as desired.

It most likely isn't displaying the info because it hasn't decoded it. The DMR on the G series pagers works, but keep in mind the pagers weren't designed for DMR (unlike scanners or DMR radios). I have run across the same issue at times on my set up as well, but then when I move around it works fine.

My G5 does the same thing.Occasionally ,I monitor a small conventional DMR system and Upon any key ups only the word “ DMR” shows up. As @ Raleigh Guy correctly points out these pagers are not designed to correctly showcase full DMR systems Informations.

There is a good chance that districts BB & CC are utilizing RAS. When RAS is in use the Unications will only display DMR and no other information. When RAS is not utilized the radio will display all available information.

With districts BB & CC are you able to monitor both timeslots in one zone, or did you have to create a separate zone for each timeslot ?

Today I saw "District BB" on the top line of the display so maybe I was just in the right location or received a stronger signal. Concerning District CC they may be using RAS, because I haven't seen their name on the top line of the display yet. I thought that if they were using RAS that the G5 wouldn't receive anything at all. Is that not correct.

I also have a Hytera VHF transceiver and a Motorola VHF transceiver that I can program this districts into [receive only, of course] to see how they receive Districts BB and CC. I know if they are using RAS that neither should receive. Thanks for the help so far.

I can monitor both time slots with the same knob position, too.

I monitor several systems with only one using RAS and I'm able to monitor it just fine. The only difference is that system will only display DMR while the others display everything.

I have no clue on how the Hytera and Motorola will behave, I am assuming they will be silent if RAS is in use.

Good info above which explains why my G5 only displays “ DMR”.

Following up on this thread. I did get all three of these school districts programmed in the Motorola radio. I had been told that District CC was likely using RAS on their DMR system. On the Motorola, I'm receiving Districts AA and BB without any issues, both slots. But I am unable to receive District CC,, thus confirming that they are using RAS. I'm happy that the G5 receives District CC in spite of RAS, which I didn't think it was capable of. As mentioned earlier, it receives the radio traffic on District CC, but doesn't decode the Alpha characters, thus displaying "[DMR]" on the first and second lines of the display.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions.
