If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Folks,
Just received two new G5's with the new 2.01 Firmware. It would appear that the audio at "0" is completely silent, and then if you turn it up to "5", it appears the audio jumps quite a bit in volume. It seems that it is louder than previous firmware versions. I no-longer have those G4's to test with the older firmware. Curious if anyone else is seeing this with the newest firmware.

Thank you!

The 2.01 firmware has not been released for older G4/G5 units. It seems the newer units have different hardware.

Just wondering if there is a volume offset similar to ( -3 to +3 Uniden Sentinel) incorporated within the 2.x firmware ?

The 2.0 FW is being discussed here, maybe they will have better answers.

I don't have any previous G4 or G5 to compare, but with my new unit on firmware 2.01 with the volume set to 0, most audio is completely inaudible. However, if I hold it up to my ear, I can occasionally hear a tiny bit of audio from loud TGIDs/radio IDs, so it's not 100% silent.

It's also worth noting that the audio amplifier circuit still activates even when the volume is set to 0, so you still get the very audible background hiss whenever a transmission is occurring even with the volume at 0.

Also, this sounds strange, but the volume at "0" seems to depend on how quickly I turn the volume knob down to zero. If I turn it slowly all the way down to just before it clicks off, I still get quite a bit of audio out even though the display showed the volume going to "0" and I can't turn the knob any more.

If I turn it quickly down to the same physical point (just before the "click" off) then the audio is pretty much silent as I described in my last post, despite the volume display that shows up reading "0" in both cases.

Very strange. Not sure if this is a quirk with the new firmware or if older units have the same behavior.
