If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have two G5s, my newer one always goes through the boot process when I turn it on as if it's just been reprogrammed, my old one just comes on immediately from off. I have reprogrammed it a few times and it still does it. Any idea why?

Are you running the latest firmware? If not, you might try updating and see if that fixes it. I've had some older versions of firmware have some rebooting symptoms.

In my case the booting experience varies from an immediate on and off to periods of inactivities . I am running the latest 1.33 FW.
There has not been a reasonable explanations for this process.

I have three G4’s. All programmed identical. Same PPS and firmware. Two of them always go through the boot cycle unless they’ve only been turned off a short amount of time. The remaining one turns on and starts scanning right away. I can leave them off while on vacation. When I get home and turn them back on same two boot up same one starts to scan right away. Never been able to figure out why.

In general terms, with all other factors being equal, whether pager does a quick boot or full boot depends on how long it has been sitting turned off.
Has anyone ever determined how long the pager must be off to go through the full boot? I ask because I have never experienced the full boot on my G5 regardless of firmware version and length of time spent powered off.

I also have the same experience, 1 G4 and 4 G5's start immediately and 1 G5 goes through the boot process. They are all running the same firmware and have the same programming file in them. The only difference I have seen between them is the model number, the ones that start immediately are GxBxxBF-SXxxxx1401UNI and the one that goes through the boot process is GxDxxBE-SXxxxxB702UNI.

I have noticed that it takes about 10 minutes of being turned "off" before I will go through the boot process. It's a very annoying issue especially if you are trying to get the pager turned on quickly so you don't miss something.

I purposely have not updated the firmware on my G5 to avoid the rebooting.

According to my dealer, the booting is the results of processor going through opening and has nothing to do with FW . FWs however address other important issues ..

My dealer says it was a change in the firmware to get rid of the radio’s draining the battery when off. My G5 will drain if not charged frequently. My G4 never drops a charge when it is off and goes through the boot cycle (Newer firmware). Either way, I’m leaving my G5 where it is at firmware wise. The radio doesn’t do me any good if I’m at the firehouse before it starts receiving.

Different hardware versions, not firmware. Older models do not have the battery save feature.

So your saying that updating the firmware won’t make it go through the boot cycle every time I turn it on?

Two of my three G4s I purchased from Ray’s. One in December 22 and one March 23. One boots and one starts scanning when turned on. When I called and asked him why he said it was firmware change to stop the battery from draining while turned off. One I purchased locally spring of 22. This one also boots. Mine all have the same firmware 🤷‍♂️

Okay that makes sense but I've never had a problem with the old one even after leaving it off for two weeks. My battery never drained.

I purchased my G4 from Ray's a couple of months ago. Mine will reboot at times you might think it wouldn't. It may not reboot when you think it would, like first thing in the morning. Not sure why. I am sure it works great. I sold my SDS200 and replaced it with the G4. :). One of the good decisions I made in my life.

I agree. I have a G4 that's 3-4 years old now, running 1.33, and it just comes on. I never turn mine off though; I turn the volume down if I need silence.
