• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I did and no issues. Just make sure you have a pre beta profile saved somewhere to load back up.

Not a problem. I've got a server full of profiles (Unication), personalities (Harris) and codeplugs (Motorola) at home.

Is there a special process to the "downgrade" or simply run the 1.31 FW updater?

I understand that but the latest firmware updates are geared towards scanner users such as hold and lockout of talkgroups. You don't want your professional user accidentally locking out a talk group. That was put in for the consumer market.

Actually the Hold and Delete functions would be handy even for the professional market. If I were a fire chief purchasing these things for official alerting and monitoring, I'd have it set up with one knob position for "night" use (alerting), another for "on duty" use (alerting and monitoring), and a third for off-duty "casual" listening, with the profile password-protected so the eager young space cadet it's issued to couldn't dork up the programming on his own.

Yes, run the updater, mine gave an error and said it was wiping it clean then reloaded. Then I just reloaded profile. The hold function is nice.

The only two features I'm really after are talkgroup hold and nuisance delete; multi-site scanning would be nice, too, but not as much as the other two.

I'll give it a shot on my work G5.

Started fresh with PPS for firm 1.31 and did all new RR imports, again no issue for me.

If you have the beta version in a G5, can you roll back to a "normal" version?

With large statewide systems, the 64-talkgroup limit is a big issue. If you're traveling across the state, it's easy to max that out if you want to monitor county-level stuff on the way, especially if you're not familiar with which specific talkgroup(s) will be of interest. Worse, the PPS dumps all talkgroups from all systems into a single list, so picking the correct talkgroups from multiple systems is pointlessly unwieldy. Having WV-SIRN, VA-STARS, and MD-FIRST, each of which have hundreds of talkgroups, all in the same profile is sheer madness to try to program anything useful.

And manually switching zones and knob positions while driving is not very user-friendly or safe.

That would never work for me here in Michigan. MPSCS is the largest public safety communications network in the U.S. It has over 32,000 Talk-Groups! Of course I don't have the need to monitor all of them, or even a fraction them. But Macomb County alone has more than 180 public safety Talk-Groups!

Moved my work G5 back to v1.31 with no problem once I moved over to the Toughbook I normally use for programming. I started out on my 2019 MacBook Pro (running Win7 as a virtual machine); it used to work fine but for some reason Windoze now refuses to recognize the pager when it's plugged in, even after reinstalling the driver. Still recognizes every other dang USB thing I plug into it though. and even more confusing, it works fine on my 2016 Macbook Pro (also running Win7 as a VM).

Anyway, all back to normal and I was able to use the work G5 codeplug on my personal G5, thus saving hours of programming time.

You need to install the USB driver for the G5 in WIndows.

Already done (several times), as per my previous post:

I find that on VMWare Fusion, I had to dumb down the virtual USB controller to USB 2.0 in order to get things working right for finicky apps/hardware that interface with USB. Perhaps something like that can be done with Parallels, too?

You might want to set this in WIndows Updates. It may be that Window Updates keeps overwriting your proper drivers with ones of it's own.

View attachment 103926

I don't use Windoze 10 for that very reason; as I noted previously my virtual machines are Win 7. Updates are set so I can review them before anything gets installed, and of course all I get these days are Windows Defender updates.

I had a bad experience with Win10 in my professional life when I went out on a programming trip only to find when I got there that Win10 had overwritten all of the Motorola and Harris radio drivers on my work laptop, so I had to drive all the way back to the office and reinstall the drivers. Happened again a week later before I realized what had happened, at which point I told the Data Center "thanks but no thanks" in regard to Win10, and stayed with Win7.

I don't have a file for you, but the software is available for free on unication's website.
