• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

You need to check the system and determine if those have changed CC or even system ID. You chose not to share the system, so we can't look there, but my bet is system change rather than G5 issue.

Try reaching out to the forum for your state asking if anyone heard changes with the system.

I’m happy to share what I’m listening to and it is the statewide system and I am located in Santa Fe New Mexico. I looked at recent changes and didn’t see any systemwide changes occurring but it randomly comes in and then totally drops signal I’ve checked the antenna and have a fresh battery I’m a little puzzled by this

My inquiry regarding the antenna changes was that some after market antennas can cause the pagers antennas center pin to be pushed in . What FW are you on ? Most of my experience with the Out of Range are systems and or distance from the TT related .

Some good suggestions in this thread. I will add an additional item.
The OP does not say for certain, assuming a TRS.

Bandplan. Uni does not support entering a manual bandplan.

A site recently stopped transmitting its bandplan on the NJICS. Subscribers can apparently get by without it, G5 however shows “out of range”.

A near perfect G5 from our tw friends has a flaw here.

Try setting your site / system ID and such to wildcard see if there’s a change
I believe that I have the wildcard Numbers in there for the talk groups and site, but will you refresh me again on what those numbers are so I can verify that that is the case. I appreciate your helpfulness

RalieghGuy, I just wanted to let you know that I did reprogram using the system ID and the Wak quadruple F’s and it actually seems to have worked. It seems to be staying locked on and not going out of range. That seems to work well for me. Thank you for your opinion on that and helpfulness.

Another question for you I am running a version 1.2 on my G4. Should I update that and if so, how do you go about doing that firmware version update? Thank you

Since you are monitoring a state wide system, for the site nearest you, do you have all the control channels or just the primary?
If this is an intermittent issue, im wondering if they are doing site maintenance and rotating control channels and your device does not have the alternates.

Well, that is a very good point and I understand what you’re saying, but I am using the wild card FFF’s for the site so it should pick the closest site. It will sometimes lock on probably 80% the other 20% when you turn it on, it says Out of range?

What is your signal strength when in range?
4 Bars when on and working. I tried another Similar Antenna, No change. If I put the G4 in Amp Charger and then turn on it will work just fine. After being out of Chager for a while it says OUT Of RANGE?
