• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

G5 scanning stuff I don't want to hear

All,

Got a G5 with VHF. Works like a champ as a conventional pager on both VHF (local ham weather net) and 800 MHz (local fire departments), and as a P25 "scanner," although talkgroup delay and talkgroup hold would be pretty handy.

I've also got a knob position programmed up for paging over P25, with the dispatch talkgroup being the only one selected for that knob position. The control station the tones are being sent through is AMBE++ and the tones sound nice and clean. It has alerted on P25 so I know that works.

However. . .

While the dispatch talk group remains silent unless the tones are received, all of the talk groups in the "available" list are being scanned as if the scanner were in "wildcard" mode, showing nothing but the TG ID. The only way to not hear everything coming across the tower site being monitored is to program the G5 with only the dispatch talkgroup, which pretty much destroys the utility of the pager as far as being both a pager and monitor device.

Trying to get this working on behalf of those agencies which bought G4 pagers and do not have conventional paging capability.

Any suggestions? I've read the white papers and programming tutorials, and am about ready to tear my hair out, having tried everything I can think of or find.

Exactly what function do you have assigned to "receiving mode"? It should be talkgroup scan (yes I know it sounds wrong) and you need to enable a sub group feature for two tone on p25.

I think it's been detailed somewhere else on this forum?

Yes, talkgroup scan and sub-group with the appropriate tones is set up. Pager alerts fine when the tones are dropped over the dispatch talkgroup, which stays silent unless the proper tones are received.

The issue is that all of the talkgroups in the available list (as opposed to the selected list, which only has the Dispatch talkgroup) are being scanned, but show no alias name. Behavior is basically the same as a GRE/Whistler scanner in Wildcard mode.
