If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

G5 Tone Alert Volume too loud and vibrate not wanted

Forgive me, I'm still getting the hang of Unication G5 programming. Our dealer did a decent job getting us a config but I'd like to turn down the alert tone. As it was delivered, the pager could wake the dead and there's no adjusting it.

II wish to have a knob position that I can turn the two-tone alert volume down enough to wake me but no one else when a 2-tone is received on a conventional channel without vibrate. (My minitor V was perfect with the volume knob all the way down.)

I have the following settings and observations:
  • E6-1 "Conventional Group ID Setting" has a "Group Alias" set with "Alert Mode" set to "Tone". (I uploaded a custom alert tone with a lower volume, but still have issues.)
  • My knob position 7 (cloned from knob position 1) in E7 "Zone & Channel Setting" has "Alert Mode" set to "Tone" but vibrate still occurs when a 2-tone is received.
  • In E11-3 "Tone Volume Setting", I have tried "By Volume knob", and "Fixed Volume" setting of "1" and it is still loud.
I have upgraded firmware to V2.02_20240409 and am using the latest PPS V0.4.0.41 to program and still no luck.

Could there be a setting that I'm missing that overrides the "Tone Volume Setting" (in E11) and/or "Alert Mode" (in E7)?

Thanks!

We can delete/close this thread unless someone finds it useful. I found the answer to my own question.

It seems in E7 for the specific knob position, in the "Group Alias (TGID)" section, I had my 2-tone set toggled to "Priority". Setting it to "None" fixed the issue and allows the "Tone Volume Setting" in E11-3 to function as expected.

From the help section:

Group Option - Priority
  • Definition
Selects the on/off status of Priority Alert feature of selective TGID of the channel, if the feature is on and receives a message of selective TGID, the pager will mandatory play priority alert even the Alert Mode setting is "Vibrate Only" or "Silent".

Just another example of how reading the side help information really does help, wish more people would do that as you did.
