Besides the obvious (Frederick Co system, Joint National Capital Region system, MD state police) anyone have any suggestions on what to monitor?

I don't normally monitor aircraft so any suggestions for that is appreciated.

My knowledge is a little out of date, but here goes...

I would put better than even money that there will be a Combat Air Patrol over Camp David during this time - typically Huntress uses 260.9, and you can usually hear the pilots coming and going out from that area on the military ARTCC freqs, along with discretes that folks usually find on the milair Sticky Thread in this forum.

In addition, there are a couple ARTCC freqs which are 'reserved' for this purpose - they are/were referred to as 'Guard Dog' - 135.525 and 126.55 (alt) along with 350.25. Note that the 135 mhz freq is occasionally used by Falls Church ARTCC for overflow or backup purposes (heard that just the other day, in fact)...

We have a quick list here, but it's, I suspect, a little out of date (Willow Grove has been closed down, I believe), but the main airports, SFRA and Andrews are all still good...

Delmarva Milcom Quick List - The RadioReference Wiki

It's a good place to start, but remember, watch that Sticky Thread - that's where you're going to find the discretes, that is if you don't hear them first...

Do not forget about 171..725 P25, Catoctin Mountain Park, dispatched out of Hagerstown and the C&O Canal.

May want to listen to Hagerstown Airport too, VIP's have been known to fly in and out of there on occasion.

Washington Counties new trunk system will have possible M/A stuff if there is an accident on 77.

spanner, what would be the parameters for programing the 171.725 P25 into the pro-96? Would it be sufficient to just make the frequency and the scan list moto or is there any other paramenters involved?

I will have to look. On my 96, I think I only programed them in normally. If you are using software, just download them as they are from RR.

Don't be suprised if you can't pick up 171.725. You have to be fairly close to the park to hear it. Often sounds encrypted, but it's not...its a distance thing (not enough signal for the scanner to decode).

Keep in mind the 96 won't hear the 225-400 mhz area - and even if you open it up using Win96, the radio might be as deaf as a rock. Not surprising - the radio isn't designed for this band.

Use your 500 (and perhaps use a FM trap, as has been discussed recently) and you should be good to go

It's about 50/50 with encryption and in-the-clear. This is being used heavily today and I have a feeling it will be all weekend.

I heard some escort activity at the airport on the MWAA system. Not sure if it's related, but they mentioned SRTs so it sounded a little more serious. They were on TG1728 Mutual 2 which they were calling Tac 6. Later I heard a guy mention heading to Beaver Meadows. I can't find any place by that name around here.

Looking at Google Maps, Beaver Meadow is a road (RT614) off of Old Ox Rd. on the east side of Dulles. Maybe is what they call somewhere over there.
