GA - North Fulton Cities Partner to Replace Failing Radio System Used by Police & Fir

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — City officials are close to their goal of obtaining a new radio system. A year ago, the City of Sandy Springs set aside $2 million for a new system. Police Chief Terry Sult has been collaborating with North Fulton police and fire chiefs even longer on a solution to replace the Fulton County radio system they currently use.

Cant say I disagree...the current system is on its last leg. Who wants to bet all the PD's in north Fulton will go encrypted?

I don't think Sandy Springs would, Chief Sult is very open about the operation of SSPD and I think he would want the public to be involved.

The RFP for the new system does not specify encryption, but it is mentioned as an option.

Hopefully, there will be some good responses to the RFP when it's approved, and Harris, Cassidian and someone else other than Motorola will respond.

The good news is ISSI is specified as a required network component.

What is sad about this is that these separtist cities refuse to work with the county, what they will find out is building out a network with the desired on hip portable coverage will be costly and most likely exceed the initial estiamtes. Their refusal to work with the county might also cost them valuable real estate for the needed sites- the most expensive part of FNE is the site. Morgan Falls, Roswell High, and Burdett Rd are all county owned resources. Fulton county is well within their right to deny them access to place site equipment on county property, or charge them dearly. I sure would.

If you want to be seperate, fine. Pay the cost to be the boss. Or work with others to improve on what is there and everyone wins, and everyone pays less.

Would it be possible for all the cities and the county to build out Atlanta's TRS?
