I keep both UHF/458 and the new 700 (156.7 PL) in my scanner. I get traffic on both.
Many troopers still have the original UHF/458 extenders. No PL tone on the original 458 Mhz extender.
Another term you may hear is "Pac-Rat". Some of you "Motorola-Gurus" may be able to explain the source of that word.
If you happen to be within a few feet of a trooper car - notice the short antenna. Cars with the UHF extender will have a 4 or 5 inch 1/4 wave UHF antenna. If the car has the new 700-Mhz extender, it will have the 1/4 wave 700 anntenna which looks like it is maybe 2 inches tall.
Georgia Department of Public Safety - MCCD / Motor Carrier Compliance Division officers also have these extenders.
Now if we can just get those "body pack" frequencies. I heard one in Tennessee a year or so ago as the officer told the driver he was under arrest for DUI. Imagine staging back and hearing that stuff!
** And if you travel into Alabama - their extenders are 800-Mhz - check that d'base for more info. **
Happy Scanning!!
