Anyone else who listens to Gahanna PD notice that its been scratchy since last night? Just trying to figure out if its my scanner or their end. :)

And on a side note, noticed Gahanna had their SWAT trucks out today, anyone know of anything going on?

I sure did. I thought there was something wrong with my mobile at first, until I flipped on my HT and had the same problem.

Anyone got an idea on this one? It's been about a week and their transmissions are still pretty bad. It doesn't seem like they are having a problem hearing each other though.

Yeah I noticed they seem fine but while I'm writing this its ok. Also, GPD had SWAT out on Rocky Fork. Only caught the tail end of what was going on though. Appears one is in custody. If it wasn't for having to clean the damn house for Thanksgiving I would have heard it all. :(

I wonder if it had anything to do with the tower by the Mifflin cemetary being sold to a cellular company. I know that at least 1 amateur repeater was told it was no longer welcome on it after the salfe.

I don't know about that, but as far as I know the only repeater GPD has is on their tower at their station on Hamilton Rd. Now Gahanna service may be a different story.

BUT my big question is why they haven't gone to the 800mhz system yet. Would save them a lot of hassle carrying around extra radios just to chat on LEERN and with Mifflin, not to mention better coordination with CPD, FCSO and Highway Patrol when the President comes in town.

They spent a ton of money several years ago on a new UHF system, just before other police departments started jumping over to 800 Mhz in large numbers, and wanted to get their money's worth out of it. Essentially the same is true for Whitehall and Reynoldsburg.

Maybe you were picking up skip? I used to sit in my apartment in Whitehall listening on my handheld scanner to Gahanna. Then one night I was hearing Hamilton Co SO with a rubber duck. Apparently Columbus is the right spot to pick up Cincy skip when it happens.

Come to think of it, the week of Thanksgiving I could pickup on Dayton FM radio in Reynoldsburg.

I suppose it is possible. I know when I used to work for the Gahanna street department (which is on VHF) we used to get it quite regularly. I don't know much about skip, but I remember hearing Marblehead fire department tone out on a run, and the only Marblehead I know of is way up on the shore of lake erie.

But I digress... the good news is Gahanna PD is coming back in loud and clear!
