I monitor Galax PD on 158.730Mhz, digital, tone 162 NAC. Notice in the past couple of days, 11/23-24, there isn’t any traffic on this frequency. Does anyone know if they have changed frequency or system?
Appreciate any info

My guess is they followed the FD over to NXDN. Several surrounding county’s sheriff’s offices and PDs have switched to NXDN and encrypted. I am coming into the area for the weekend, I will see if I can find out anything and do some monitoring.

Thank you for your reply. I suspected that might be the case.

Thank you for the info. Sounds like Carroll and Grayson counties may also change. Galax PD apparently changed very recently because I heard them on 11/20 but noticed I hadn’t on 11/23. Monitored 158.730 for over 8 hours and no activity at all. I’ll try 156.1875. I have the PRO-197 / Whistler WS-1065. If they changed to NXDN I’m out of luck.

I have confirmed with a dispatcher that the PD & Public works have switched over to NXDN as the FD had previously.

Carroll & Grayson have initiated a study…but that’s it so far. I’ve participated in a couple public comment meetings. The study results are not yet complete to my knowledge. Carroll recently changed radio service providers which may affect their future plans.

Good to know they’re still on the same frequency but since they’re using NXDN now my PRO-197 or WS-1065 doesn’t work.
Thanks for the info.

Haven’t figured out how to send a DM on here yet. What Uniden scanners will cover NXDN? I’m not familiar with programming for Uniden. I have been using Win96 and Win500 and familiar with PRO-2096, PRO-197, PRO-106, PRO-651, PRO-652, PSR-600, and WS-1065 but never attempted programming any of the Uniden models.

The WS-1065 isn't capable of receiving NXDN. Here is a list of scanners that can, most of them require a paid upgrade: NXDN - The RadioReference Wiki

I’m in the same situation, have (7) WS-1065/RS-PRO197 scanners that work great and I have enjoyed listening to the action for several years but with the change to NXDN, the action has left the capability of a somewhat reasonably priced scanner to receive.
New scanners that can receive this system are in the $400 - $700 range an unfortunately it looks like more agencies will be switching to Nexedge / NXDN in the future with some also going to encryption which no scanner can receive.
Here is some information from RR Wiki:
