That's what I'm waiting to see. Going to be a bunch of torqued-up yahoos going nuts over that.

I'm waiting for the bike and jeep fests this year. Got plenty of popcorn stashed ahead.
I stand corrected ! I just read where that whimp of a sheriff running the county now has decided to allow it to continue now that Houston police has offered to help the Galveston county sheriff's office with extra patrol officers WTF ? They are in Harris county not Galveston ! Go figure

I attended the first Mardi Gras after COVID. When compared to past Mardi Gras festivals, it was boring relative to scanner activity.

I believe the county cleaned things up.

The big parade toward the end of the festival was flanked with DPS motorcycles instead of the usual Galveston PD motorcycle escorts.

Even the Victorian cleaned the site up.

I have been to Galveston Mardi Gras over 20 times.

I think Galveston might be attempting to make this event "family friendly."

In have monitored Galveston LE for many years with different scanners.

I heard and witnessed some mighty interesting things.

One year, while sitting in the back of the Best Western on the Sea Wall, a couple pulled into the adjacent parking spot & started screwing like rabbits. My friend's eyes got big as saucers. I recall a woman falling out of her Yukon stinking drunk, in the middle of the road next to the Victoria.

One year, I heard some really stupid suspected gang members smoking up the car like Cheech & Chong. There were six in the car. They were promptly arrested on IH45.

It was quite common for couples to screw in the pool at the Victorian.

While across from the Catholic school along the parade route, I heard gunshots followed by a police helicopter nearby.

I brought two people down to experience vicarious debauchery coming through the scanners, but nothing really exciting happened.

The Mummers were there. That saved the parade, LOL.

So, if Mardi Gras returns to the crazy past, please let me know what you hear.

I was listening on Sunday and things were pretty busy until about 7pm when most of the events ended. Lots of public intoxication, disturbances. things like that.

Yeah , I heard a few fights , some resisting arrest , a motorcycle jockey was invaded in a minor MVA , other than that a few accidents von Broadway which is typical during the busy weekends
Next weekend is more geared towards family activities , but still could have some drinks being arrested and I believe March 8th starts spring break in Galveston 😲 then police get really busy once again ! It's too bad someone doesn't do a police reality show in Galveston during spring break ,

What? Outlawed by who, the state legislature? New Awluns Mardi Gras is really cooking on here: New Orleans Public Safety Earlier DPS units were backing up local cops in Galveston and DPS 102 was overhead. I've been alternating between listening to New Orleans and Galveston-just turned Galveston back on. If you're listening to the Galveston Broadcastify feed they've got detectives doing surveillance on one of the channels that's kind of monopolizing the feed. They've been doing that surveillance for hours

See the Javier Amblers Act
That's interesting. This Youtuber just recently made a series of ride along programs with DPS troopers and Texas Rangers near the border. I wonder how he got away with that-this is the 1st episode:
I'm listening to Galveston now and their Mardi Gras is much quieter than the one in New Awluns. There seems to be a lot more violence and rowdiness at the NO Mardi Gras

The law If I understand it right, means they can't do a show live with police and broadcast it live. However if it's taped and put on a show later it is legal , correct ?

Beats the heck outta me. I thought all these reality police shows were taped and edited. Btw, that youtube series that I posted is incredibly educational. The DPS spent a lot of time explaining exactly what the border situation is like, and as a Texan I learned a lot of things I never knew before.

I'll check it out. So I also wonder if news media can still cover police chases as they are happening ? I haven't seen any on the News in a long time 🤔

Yea, I dunno about the news media, but I don't see how police reality shows could be done live anyway. I mean, what are they gonna do-sit in the patrol car or drive around on patrol for 45 minutes until they finally get a radio call and then respond to it? And who knows what the nature of that call would be? They could go the whole shift without anything really interesting going on. I would think that would get boring pretty quick.

Anyway, Galveston cops are pretty busy right now dealing with Mardi Gras. They've got quite a bit of DPS helping out, DPS 102 and even Harris County SO. I alternate between listening to them and the New Orleans cops. It seems like these spectators in New Awluns spend more time beating each other up than watching the parades ;). Either that or somebody's constantly losing track of their little kids. They even have a channel set aside just for missing children.
