Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
Post above that Placebo effect only.

Not yours.

We still see Garble as noted on first note - so guess can not read...

Appreciate inputs and as noted this is-not a Fix All only testing...

Bill

If the scanner reads the bandplan information from the control channel (hint: it does - Uniden's digital radios have done this since the x96D), then changing it on the scanner makes NO difference whatsoever. You might as well see if the radio works better if you place a jar of Skippy peanut butter next to it or not. In other words, what you're changing isn't even LOOKED AT when the scanner is scanning a P25 system. Hence, the term "placebo effect" applies.

What you probably WILL find however is that you've messed up NON-P25 trunking systems by tinkering around in there. I don't know as I haven't tried this and don't plan to. The scanner is working fine for me as is.

Kevin is correct. The bandplan settings emitted over the control channel will always over-ride what you've programed into the radio. I'd imagine when the radio first starts to scan the system(and during "house cleaning"), it will load the bandplan settings from memory. Once the radio decodes the bp from the data stream, it will update the saved settings(if any), and use those changes in it's current form.

If the radio has trouble decoding the cc, it can pollute the the bandplan settings with bad data. However, this will not affect the radio's capability to decode in any way, shape or form. It is only used for channel assignments.

Yes- we do see the reload of the 700 band plan and the reload of the 800 plan from the CC, and the adds in the other 8 discrete are still present.
Of course they are still present, why would the radio update the settings to something that doesn't exist?

Note that the 6.25 kHz is not a bandwidth setting. It is a channel step size setting (used to calculate the voice channel frequency). That setting will have no affect on actual receive quality (well, unless it is wrong, in which case it won't receive at all).

Test Continue...

Today's Update for information only.

UPMAN just saw your post and thanks mucho for guidance!

Testing still in progress and here's what we see on the HP-1 (please see first Post as background).

- After inputting "discrete" band plans (just after deleting the CC / Defaults) we did confirmed the CC did apparently (by design) push the P25 Band Plans (700 and 800) on the HP-1 back to Band Plan 0 and Band Plan 1 as suspect this is normal. DId set to 6.26KHz

- We did lose 2 of the manually inputted "discrete" as they were in the same slots, so appears over-written.

- Might reload those in the upper Band Plan slots as see....

- Also found that the LCN / Frequencies we captured on the Radio vs on RR db did-not match exactly (will get with Russell the DBA) on that one too...could be an issue perhaps of interference?

- Yet the other eight (8) discrete do remain.

- We are still getting some amount of Garble (as noted on original post) yet less than prior without discrete loaded.

- We have now reload the top (most utilized) Freq's back into the manual Band Plan and will see if that makes any difference or not.

As noted, this is a Test and is "subjective" and if someone stumbles onto an idea that Improves well that's the idea..also with other discussions around GPS as a 'Sync-Timing Loop Source' (another topic)

Thanks for those that have read and "give it a try" - Solutions don't just happen - folks like you bring these forward and folks much smarter go figure it out...

Thanks and will close this thread shortly as testing is completed at this stage and moving on to the second part is another forum, as not related to the HP-1 unit per se. Thanks for the information and inputs.

The 8 discrete remain because the systems bandplan does not utilize them. However, they will never be used since the control channel will never reference them. Wasted keystrokes.

Unfortunately this discussion is much the same as the GPS discussion.

Mike and others:

First thanks for your inputs.

I had hoped to generate thought and at the same time look at possible out of the box solutions, along with perhaps future items that might improve our collective hobby.

The most interesting finding in this forum was the amount of apparent experts that either offered zero solutions or gave everyone a hard time because they clearly know it all and realize they do not have anything to really offer - other than "if is was perfect it would work better"

My approach is that Testing is a key stone with Product Development...

So if Steve Jobs would have proposed ideas here I suppose a few would try to discourage him - yet they have no real items to bring to the table on many cases.
