Hello,

Live outside of Boston.
Just starting to monitor commercial aero and mil aero a bit more seriously now.

Have two frequencies that I found for Gander.
128.450 MHz
135.450
Assuming both are regular AM.

These are supposedly where oceanic commercial aero. traffic checks in for Atlantic clearances, etc.

Have heard nothing on either of them.

Are these in operation "all" the time, or only at selected times of the day ?

Should I, do you think, be able to hear Gander from Boston ?

How about flights contacting Gander ?

Are these the two most used freq's for this ?

Any thoughts would be most apprecviated.

Thanks,
Bob

If your listening out of boston, you'll have a better chance of getting the handoff between moncton and boston, which is 124.3 MHz (moncton side). I can't remember the boston side just now.

The VHF radios that Nav Canada uses are only outputting 20W CW, so calculate the cable loss into that, it's only 10W at the antenna. Your gonna have quite a hard time picking up that from boston.

The HF's however, you may be able to get something, but I don't know what frequencies are used...

Hello Bob,
I believe if you check the WIKI here it should have a map of Boston sector & freqs. You will see that the adjoining airspace of Boston/Gandar has numerous sectors & tracks with different VHF freqs depending on entry/exit points and routings. There are much more freqs used. I was able to hear 135.45 ( especially evenings)from NYC (airborne). You might want to make sure that you are using an outside antenna.
