I'm not usually one to post something like this, but:

California Radio Discussion Forum Forum for discussing Radio Information in the State of California.

A tavern topic maybe?

City of National City (san diego) currently has a gang injunction on approximately 214 gang members. The gang members began being served in October of 2005. Under the injunction, documented gang members are restricted from associating with other members, as well as participating in criminal activities. If they are caught in violation of the injunction, they receive a misdemeanor charge in addition to what their original charge was. I feel it has a positive impact on the city, it creates a great deal of trouble for the gangs and makes the police officer's jobs easier. The negative impact is that, it just moves the gang members on to other cities, creating problems in other areas.

Many cities in California have variations of these gang injunctions. Some are as easy as an area is identified as a gang area. A validated gang member is served with a restraining order keeping him or her away from this area. Some orders say they can not associate with other gang members. They do work. In my experience with them they work when I am adding charges to someone. usuaully we show up for a shooting or stabbing and when we track down the suspect we add that he/she is violation of a court order.

I think Monterey County might have an injunction, but I know we have a Gang Task Force and also 5,000 registered Norteno and Sureno gang members here... Some 3,000 of them are in Salinas. Scary, huh?

That is why I'm so glad I moved out of Salinas, I lived at Freedom and Williams. Three gang shooting in the school parking lot in 4 years(not the High school). Open my window to here gun fire. Hear a police stop, turn on scanner and watch the k-9 search your front yard. The March and Feb shooting sprees that leave about six dead( noone over 22 years old). When I sold that house for four times what I pay for it, I ran back to the bay area after leaving my job in Salinas.

They are good people in Salinas, to bad the streets are not that safe for them.

Criminals have all the rights in SF...I am surprised you can still own a scanner there....they took away your guns.

Didnt a Judge rule the law unconstitutional? And besides that the City Police said they would not enforce it since the wording effectivly would have kept pistols out of their hands too. Rifles and shotguns were still allowed under the law though.

Like I said though (At least I think I did) LOL
DIVERSION programs need to be funded.
I was in The NAVY and if it wasn't for me joining THe NAvy And EspecialY JOB CORPS
I would have been DEAD and/or in prison....
Shoot!!
Even with both those Institutions I BEARLY MADE it to a safe Bona fide stable point in life
I wouldn't have joined gangs buuut I would have defintly been a Crinimal.

It's already a part of California law in the Penal Code. It's statewide and available to any District Attorney who may have the need. Look up Penal Code Section 186.20 to read the entire act.

186.20. This chapter shall be known and may be cited as the
"California Street Terrorism Enforcement and Prevention Act."
