By "Tones" I assume you mean the "tones" to activate their pagers?? That I don't have BUT someone else might.

Garden City FD has their own frequencies: 154.815 PL 186.2 (Repeated..I hear it in Western Suffolk Co. It's used for tone out and F/G usually) and 154.845 DCS 423 (F/G, it's low powered NOT repeated).

They have had their own frequency since at least 1972 ...They are in the 1st Battalion in Nassau County their ID is 1-4-0.

The 1st Battalion use 46.10 for tone out and 46.32 for the fire scene (unless the Department has it's own frequency).

The tones will be pretty hard to get no matter where you live, I remember living in Colchester Connecticut, I wanted the tones for Colchester Fire/EMS, and they were hard to get. Most dispatch centers don't like people having them, Partly due to the fact that they can be used maliciously, and sometimes it's because they don't want ANYONE who isn't a firefighter/EMS having a Minitor, Some departments say this because they don't want anybody impersonating them.

Most people in most departments have no idea what they are anyway. My old FD of had only one person out of 30 who knew ours, me :D

IS there software that will decode an audio file with the tones?

Yes but did you search???

If you go to Official Fire Tone-Out Discussion you will find all the info you need.

You need to hook up your scanner to your pc and get a recording of the tones off 46.10 and then run them thru the software listed...

Thats what I did because no one will give out this info..I dont know why , tones for pagers are all over the web. Just not Long Island.
Daves NF2G Scannist Pages has a page of tones but not much for Nass or suff..Daves tones page

I even went to the Radio Forum on the Nassau/Suffolk Fire and EMS Message Board and had no luck.

But it nice to see Daves page now has clickable Nass and Suff links...
Thanks to those who provided the info ....Please submit more...

Also just know that when you are using fire tone out - - Thats it - - you cant use the feature while scanning...One or the other..

I tried analyzing the audio file, but the B tones come out impossibly low. Can you provide a recording in .WAV format?

EDIT: Actually, I don't have the scanner to line in cable. Would it help if I amplified the signal in the WMA file?

From the tones that have been contributed to my website for Nassau County so far, I can't tell what kind of tone system is being used. At least one of the tones as listed for Merrick has to be wrong.

With that in mind, here are the possible tone combinations for Garden City Park:

QCI: P/? P/H P/G (probably not)

QCII: 189/128 189/151 189/150 (cap codes)
QCII: 1092.4/879 1092.4/584.8 1092.4/553.9 (tone freqs)

Reach: (can't construct valid sequence)

Plectron: 1082/910 1082/589.7 1082/540.7 or 564.7 (tone freqs)

I think QCII looks best, but the only way to verify is to plug the tones into a receiver and see if it activates.

The scanners won't accept cap codes. Program the frequencies.

Yes, I put the last value numbers in with the 46.10 frequency and it toned out around 430pm today when they had a call.

So you put in JUST 1092.4/553.9, or all of 1092.4/879 1092.4/584.8 1092.4/553.9?

Thanks

just put in the first combo in and await a call. Unfortunately, they arent a terribly ative department but it opened up yesterday for that 1 call. I am finding that the tone-out feature may be related to distance! When in my mobile using the spectra antenna, I get the feature to work. When in my house, using the austin condor handheld, I have trouble getting any tone-outs??!! Not sure why!!
