I would advise taking it down everytime you leave your vehicle. And if you happen to be in a bad area take it with you. I had both my old and new GPS stolen out of my car (popped the lock) about a month ago. They went right in the center console and got it. I was fortunate and got them back though because I had the serial numbers wrote down (another piece of advice keep the serial number wrote down). I called local pawn shops and found them. Also the thieves were tracked down too because of that.

Two pieces of advice I will repeat.

1. Never leave your GPS viable. If you are in a known bad area take it with you if you can as an extra precaution.

2. Write down the serial number so in the even that it is stolen you stand a chance of getting it back. Most bad guys will pawn them for the money. Also aids the police in catching them if you get it back from the pawn shop. That is even more satisfaction that you are able to help catch the jerk that stole it in the first place.

Thanks for the advice! I never thought about writing down my serial number, but that is one of the first things I am going to do today! If I am in a bad area, I will take it down/hide it/or most likely I will just take it with me.

Thanks again! :)

Let me add a third piece of advice to that, especially since its a Garmin. I don't know about this particular model, but with mine, you can enable a security feature that will lock out the unit and make it unusable if anyone steals it. The ONLY way to reset it is to send it to Garmin with your proof of purchase.

I live in a somewhat rural area and I was out walking my dogs one day (or rather, they were walking me!) and I found a Garmin GPS on the ground! I turned it on and since I also have a Garmin, I knew it was locked out. I called Garmin on the off chance that if I gave them the serial number, they would tell me who it belonged to. Well it wasn't such a crazy idea after all. As it turns out, it belonged to my neighbor across the road! He had apparently put it on the roof of his truck and forgot it was there when he pulled out and it slid off!

Yes, there are still some honest people out there!

Hey Scott,

I did set that up but I will only turn it on when I am in a bad area or somewhere I am not comfortable lol. Thanks! :)

That was nice of you!! ;)

I thought you said you were using the lighter socket to power it? If that's the case, you're not using the internal battery.

A non-replaceable Lithium ion, I'd say. Don't run it down too often. Lean on the battery icon to bring up the detailed status screen.

-- Yep, I am using the lighter socket to power it. Not using the internal battery pretty much at all.

-- If I leave it plugged in all the time to my cigarette lighter, I don't have to worry about that, right?

Get a mount from Pro-Fit and put it next to the stereo, thats where i have my TomTom. I bought their VSM, vehicle specific mount, that goes under the righthand screws of the stereo, took like five minutes to put in and then with the correct AMPS style adapter for the TomTom to pop in its easy.

I don't think i have any pictures up of the TomTom mounted and on, but you can see the rest of the install in my 03' KJ on my website.

It looks like a nice mount but is it screwed into the dash? What is the advantage of that over keeping mine suction cuped where it is now? lol :)

By the way, I love your Liberty set-up! The lights are awesome as well!! I also like the brush guard! How much was it if you don't mind me asking? Hard to install?

Again, that's exactly how it's designed to be used, so you have nothing to worry about. Obviously, there's something bad that you think might happen, but you haven't explained what and how/why you figure it would happen, so I can't address it. As others have pointed out, your main concern should be theft.
