I was wondering if anyone listening to Gastonia Police is having the issue of not hearing the channel close/open tones on their digital system?
They work no problem on the conventional system.

I'm betting the channel marker tone is shorter than the talk permit tone on the 800 MHz consolette and the tone is over before the radio actually keys up.

I apologize but can you dumb that down for me please? I'm not fully sure of all the radio talk.

The talk permit tone is the 3 chirps that occur when you key up on a Motorola trunked radio giving you the go-ahead to talk. If the talk permit tone is 1 second long and the channel marker tone is only half a second long, then by the time the trunked radio is already keyed up from the console, the channel marker tone is no longer being transmitted. That delay is not present on the conventional side so you hear it on the UHF side but not out over the 800 side.

Perfect, thank you so much! So there's no real way I can control if i hear it or not?
