I am curious how all of the GATRRS Interop channels are assigned? I know one is listed for the Western area counties, which cover Blanco, Burnet, and Llano, and A1 and D1 are listed as Austin/Travis, but the E and G groups seem to encompass a mix of areas. On the newly listed G2 group, I heard some training or ops around Round Mountain, which is in Blanco County.

Assignment is either coordinated or in some cases, first come first serve.

There is a systemwide interoperability plan which defines everything.

Thanks, I figured there was some kind of plan for system users. Pretty much the same for another area wide system I've worked on in the past.

I'm still trying to figure out how to program G1/G2 into my scanners. I have them combined into one department and so far they are loaded into my Williamson and Travis County FLs. The alternative would be to build a separate FL with all of the sites in GATTRS (Travis, Williamson, Bastrop, etc.) where they are likely to be used and just A1, D1, G1 and G2 TGs programmed in.

To add to the confusion, I got a hit on the Williamson Simulcast on 1588. This was on DSD+ and had the (P) patch indicator. Maybe I'll just create a new FL for Interop.

I forget to mention that 1588 is part of the "E" group Interop.

Also, what TIRIS? I see a listing of Talk Groups but no other information.

TIRIS is operational in its first phase which was aimed at creating 10 talkgroups that interconnected NTIRN, TxWARN, GATRRS, LCRA and Palo Pinto County through Motorola's Critical Connect which is a soft ISSI hosted interface. It's not full time and acts more as a glorified patch in this iteration. The long term goal is to get full ISSI roaming between the trunked systems so users can seamlessly roam between systems just as they would between sites on the defined talkgroups. One of the current issues, Motorola currently doesn't support ISSI adjacent site advertisements on their system where EF Johnson and L3-Harris do.

Thank you. That answers my question, which in reality was if it's worth it to program into my scanners. It doesn't seem that it needs to be yet.

If nothing else, I hope that the recent flooding results in improved interoperability between the various radio systems.

I'll add this little tidbit.

A1/E1/G1/G2/G3 can be used anywhere on GATRRS and are by definition in the clear. Any interop zone (A through ZZ) that has a zone number below 50 is clear. Any interop zone with a zone number above 50 is secure. Some of the regional zones have exceptions as they pre-date the interop plan that created the 50 definition.

G3? Does that mean I'm going to have to keep running DSDPlus on GATTRS?
