You won't find this one in the manual.

My cat likes to walk on top of this radio and sometimes steps on the on/off button. He did this yesterday when I wasn't home and drained the batteries down to almost nothing. That's how I discovered that when the batteries get critically low, the radio drifts down in frequency, settling down around 400khz. You cannot tune down there, but at my location, I am able to hear three longwave NDB beacons - one about 10 miles away, and two about 60 to 90 miles away (during the day). As the batteries continue to run down, the radio stays on 400khz and simply get's quieter and quieter.

Just a fun tidbit I thought I'd pass along.
