For a while now Geauga County law enforcement agencies have had MDTs in their patrol units. Recently the county fire departments came on board with them as well. While the law enforcement agencies still sign onscene and clear, etc. on the radio, a number of the county fire departments will start to do this over the MDTs. Clearly this will cut down on the radio traffic we will be able to pick-up on in Geauga County over our scanners. I was informed that the fire departments will still be using the radios for things such as: paging in the stations, incident size-ups, requesting additional help, and talking on the fire ground; just not signing enroute and so on. I was informed this was implemented to "free-up dispatchers."
