Geauga County has been told by the folks controlling the system that we should stop buying radios that are not compatible with capabilities to use a digital system in the future. Many of the users have been upgrading their radios over the past year as a result.

This makes us compatible with MARCS and Lake County currently. There are plans to switch to a digital system but from what I understand, this will not occur until some time in 2012 providing funding and other upgrades remain on schedule.

Currently, the County has been investing in additional towers to improve coverage in areas where the system is weak. They are also preparing for rebanding. To the best of my knowlege, there is not a definate time frame for this rebanding. The intent is to eventually convert to a digital system after these other issues are completed. Again, we were told that it wouldn't be until some time in 2012.
