General encryption question.

This question popped in my head a few days ago and I thought I'd ask the experts. Can a radio Moto (xtl or xts) contain multiple encryption keys? For example Counties A,B & C use different encryption keys, but a state officer travels between the different counties and also talks to the drug task force which uses a different key.

As a follow up, assuming a radio can have multiple encryption keys, is there a limit? Also, can (or are) the various keys associated to specific talk groups or are they basically active all the time?

1) Yes.

2) Using ADP: 8. Using UCM: varies.

The radio must have Multikey feature set. I believe its a flash upgrade if the radios don't have them.

You can slave a specific key to a personality or let the user select the key. You can also have the radio check for the matching key when receiving a transmission and automatically select the appropriate key.

Most multikey radios support up to 16 keys. The newer APX line can support up to 32.

thanks again, everyone. As I was typing the question, it seemed like the radios "should" be able to support more than one, just didn't know for sure. "should" and "do" are sometimes miles apart.
