What you are asking has very littel to do with SCANNING, and much to do with the larger field of Radio.

Sorry to tell you but it is all based on the physics of E&M fields.

Some of the best non-text books are what the ARRL publishes.

I know you said don't explain it but think of it this way:

Frequencies are waves. So is sound, just not electrical.
Low sound=long waves
Low freqs.= long waves

Hi = short for both.

It's sort of the same reason you can't push a low bass note through a small set of speakers. The wave doesn't physically match.

Ever notice that 800 mhz radios have tiny antennas and 27 mhz CB radios have huge ones?

Mancow thanks for the explanation. I definately understand a bit better now.

Still wanting white papers on how scanner/cb radio work and the antenas as well. Any other suggested info will be appretiated.

Thanks.

Google is a good source

I personally would start with a good book on radio.

Time for a trip to the library! :)

The reason I am pointing you to book, is that there is so much bad information out there you will probably be better off getting a few solid facts under your belt before you have to start soorting the good from the bad on the internet.
